Summer Camp Report 2009

Once again we had a tremendous time at ‘Indefatigable’ on Anglesey, although the weather was not quite as kind as in 2008. 35 out of 42 Scouts attended, plus 9 of ten YL and the same team of 6 adults as last year

The programme included Swimming and climbing indoors, Kayaking on Llyn Mymbr, plus Canyoning or High Ropes.  We were also able to take to the Menai Straits in a power boat, thanks yet again to the generosity of the staff of the Nuffield Sailing Centre which is adjacent to the camp site.  Some of the Scouts climbed Snowdon for a cuppa in the new caff; the rest visited the Devil’s Kitchen!

Cooking Competition

The standard of cookery and the imagination shown was, as in past years, admirable.  The same two Patrols as last year won the competition, the Kestrels and the Badgers.  Three years on the trot for the Badgers!

Perhaps the cooks were inspired by Peter Cloke’s menu!  Have a look overleaf. Hardly a baked bean in sight!

Patrol Camping Competition

There were six Patrols in camp this year – a record.  As usual the competition was close, but the two Patrols who were joint winners in fact led from the first day, the Owls and the Kestrels.

Rees Jenkins (PL) led the Owls, well supported by his APL, Jonathan Rees, Lee Parkinson, Jacob Sheppard, Frazer McAnnally, and Tom Wood.

Tom Rowlands (SPL) led the Kestrels; he also managed a good team – Robin Cloke (APL), Trystan Davies, John Carter and Peter Bishop.

Summer Camp always ends on a note of sadness, when Scouts leave the Troop, mixed with pleasure, when they go on into the Explorers or become Young Leaders – or both.

2009 is no exception.  Tom Rowlands, the Senior Patrol Leader, and six Patrol Leaders (Rees Jenkins, Tom Lewis, Dylan Lockwood, Adam Matthews, Luke Parkinson & Holly Penn) have all reached the end of their time in the Troop and will now move on, together with two fairly recent entrants to the Troop, Ieuan Jones and Tom Simmonds.  We wish them All the Best for the future!

The batons now pass to the new Patrol Leaders

Badgers: Samuel Hall

Falcons: James Hosie

Foxes: Andrew Hosie

Kestrels: Robin Cloke

Owls: Jonathan Rees

Stags: Tobias Griffiths

The SPL will be chosen in September.

Looking ahead to 2010

Remember!  The Brecon Scout Troop is 100 Years Old in 2010.

We shall celebrate our centenary in a number of ways, including a special camp in late May for Beavers, Cubs Scouts, Explorers, Young Leaders and adults.   Read your emails to keep up!

Any ideas?
